there have apparently been 10 probably clases of swine flu in rhode island. according to the radio only two have finished being tested and one of them was it and the other wasnt. apparently at least one of them was at johnson & wales university and they closed it down or something i dunno about that. but apprently there is at leat one person at brown because today when i was working at catering prep i found out that they are taking this person food every day so they dont come to the dining halls.

also they are relocating some exams so there can be 3 feet between each student

It's not going to be anywhere near as bad as some people are making out. As far as I can tell it's not really even worse than normal flu, which still kills thousands of people here every year but which you hear nothing about. I understand why there's a scare about it but I'll be surprised if it actually becomes anything to realistically worry about.

i was never worried myself

but i cant remember where i heard/read that. oh maybe on mt actually. some article about realizing it wasnt as bad as they thought and retracting their advice to schools to close down if they have any probable cases

oh yeah i forgot to mention the makeshift posts with hand sanitizer dispensers tacked onto them that are now ubiquitous. i was paying so little attention to the swine flu craze that i didnt' even make the connection for a whole day i was just kind of like "oh thats weird"

I'd forgotten all about this until the dept.of health leaflet dropped through the door and, as with all important government statements, election brochures etc., I read it while sitting on the bog.

We have been notified by the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH)
of one Brown student with a laboratory confirmed case of H1N1
influenza. This individual was likely exposed to H1N1 in New York, is
recovering well, and none of the individual's close contacts are sick.
RIDOH has advised us that there is no need to take any special
precautions with respect to the patient other than the standard
treatment precautions which have already been taken, and indicated
there is no need to change any of our operations with regard to
Commencement and Reunion events this weekend.

Supposedly there's to be a vaccine released in July or somethin' but I'm not gonna take it 'cause then I'll get sick with swine flu and honestly fuck that

yeah i've never had a flu vaccination

i mean i'm pretty sure i had the flu this year but its not a common occurrence and it was doable

but yeah the flu vaccine makes my mom sick i dunno she's never had me take it and she's a doctor

I had flu earlier this month and the university put me on the h1n1 list. I was laid out for five days and I still have a cough and a little runny nose. I was never officially diagnosed with swine flu but based on my previous experiences with flu, this one seemed a level up.

fortunately i have steered clear of the flu so far. in fact i have really only had any kind of flu once that i can remember and that was last semester. its possible i had it when i was younger but i think i generally have a very strong immune system except when i am quite sleep deprived, which is probably what happened when i got the flu last time. i mean i am sleep deprived often but it has to be a coincidence of lack of sleep with exposure i assume. i have also never had a flu vaccine i'm pretty sure

I caught it, was in bed for 3 days, shook it off, no big deal. Swine Flu my arse. I've had worse comedowns.
